JOB SUMMARY:
The Service Engineer provides technical support and services for the customers of our Client’s hardness division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Arrange and organize client visits to complete scheduled servicing and equipment calibration in own area.
- Service and Repair of hardness testing machines.
- Accurately record measurement data for calibration certificates according to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025.
- Promptly responding to any equipment breakdowns and faults.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction is achieved by working efficiently to deliver a fast and effective resolution to any issues.
- Calibrate equipment to relevant standards and procedures.
- Ability to use and demonstrate standard test methods.
- Understand and evaluate the results from a test.
- Installation of new hardness tester machines.
- Customer training in the operation and software on hardness testing machines.
- Support customer and other personnel with technical advice as required.
- Have dedicated office space in your home.
- Prepared to work out of normal hours ( early starts / late finish), either on the road or in own office.
- Areas covered: South East, around Sandhurst, Heathrow covering Oxford, Cambridge across to Southampton. Visits to southern Ireland. Provide holiday / emergency cover for other areas. The current engineer lives in Dudley.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain all supplied tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Maintain vehicle in road-worthy condition (seek prior approval for any major repairs).
- Maintain a satisfied customer base.
- Maintain own equipment list and re order through office when test pieces exhausted.
- Submit accurate and timely reports & expenses.
- Participate in developing accreditation programs and technical training.
- Attending in-house training in order to develop high level of technical expertise across the product range. (This will involve foreign travel).
- Support the laboratory Quality Manager and quality system.
- Support Deputy Service Manager with organizing out of area jobs where required (over night stays).
- Periodically audited and assessed by UKAS.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Service Engineer reports to the Deputy Service Manager for service issues and to the Head of Laboratory / Quality Manager for calibration issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be computer literate although no formal qualifications are required. Engineering based qualifications ie apprenticeship / ONC are desirable. Meet requirements for accreditation as defined by UKAS and BS EN ISO/IEC 17025. Must successfully complete a client specific aptitude test.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience with Field Service / shopfloor working is ideal however adequate training will be provided.
INITIATIVE:
The engineer must be able to operate with minimum supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong and agile enough to handle machine tooling and calibration equipment and not restricted in any way from using heavy mechanical equipment.
ACQUIRED SKILLS:
The engineer must be proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office applications and Hardness Testing software programs. Repairing and / or building PCs an advantage. Maintain full driving licence.
